Today we will make a review on probably the best baitcasting reel available on the market – Shimano Curado 200I – Right Hand. Shimano has introduced a couple of new features within their new generation reels. They wanted to provide more options, more performance and more technology for the anglers, which they have done in three unique ways.

The reel is equipped with X-ship innovation, which is very efficient to wind under load. X-ship is a bearing supported pinion gear on both sides. By putting another bearing on the other side, the reel becomes much stable. What that does, is when you are turning the handle, burning a big crank bait or catching  a lot of fish at your spot, the gear is going to stay tight, which gives you long lasting gear, more torque and more power. The cross carbon drag helps with that as well.

Drag:

It works great when you reel those big fish. Super smooth drag pulls around 6 kilos at the top end, which means that the big fish will not get away.

Breaking technology:

The next great feature is a breaking technology – SVS infinity. Shimano came out with a variable break system years ago that is probably the best breaking system that they have ever done. What they wanted to do is to make it adjust on the fly. On the side, the reel has a small dial, which adjusts a cone on the inside of the spool, which makes it adjustable.

An escape hatch on the side of the reel allows you to access the break box with ease. When you adjust it, the ring goes in and out putting more or less pressure on the breaks. You can easily adjust from using a spinner bait to hard body, or even having a head wind that you might have to work into.

Casting efficiency:

Probably the biggest thing with this reel is the casting efficiency. Minimized and lightweight 3-D spool allows you to cast smoothly. What Shimano have done, they have perfectly balanced the spool and by doing so they have eliminated all unnecessary vibration. When the reel is in balance, it is going to last for a very long time.

Spool:

At the end of the cast, most bait cast reels have a vibration, but not with this spool. It spins efficiently because it is on a hub in the middle of the spool, similar to car tire. Perfectly balanced spool creates longevity and great performance.

On top of that, you get cross carbon drag, aluminum frame, super free 5 S A-RB bearings, comes in right and left hand, 7-2, 6-3, and 5.5 gear ratio.

Although the reel is designed for freshwater, you can easily use it for saltwater fishing with the same efficiency. Just do not forget to clean it after each use as you do with your saltwater gear and it will last you a lifetime.
